Ice Cases Cobbs Creek Golf Course Clubhouse After Fire

A fire heavily damaged the clubhouse at a historic Philadelphia golf course and left the charred remains covered in icicles.

The fire started about 11 p.m. Monday inside the clubhouse at the Cobbs Creek Golf Club in the 7500 block of Cardington Road in the city's Overbrook section.

SkyForce10 was over the scene as heavy flames rose from the building. Firefighters remained on the scene early Tuesday morning treating flare-ups and hot-spots.

All the water used to douse the flames left the heavily-damaged building covered in ice -- icicles hanging off burned out windows.

Due to the below freezing temperatures, the water quickly turned to ice and salt trucks were called to the scene to treat roads leading to the clubhouse.

No injuries were reported.

The cause remained under investigation Tuesday.

The Cobbs Creek Golf Club opened in 1916 and bills itself at the oldest public golf course in the Philadelphia area. The colonial style clubhouse was built for the club.
