Person of Interest Sought in City Controller Shooting

Edith Blackwell and a man were shot while pumping gas at the same station where the owner was killed in December

Police are searching for man in connection with the shooting of Chester's City Controller Edith Blackwell, along with another victim who was pumping gas, at a Sunoco station in Chester on Friday afternoon. It's the same gas station where the owner was murdered in December.

Police released a picture of the man Saturday asking for the public's help in identifying him. Investigators would like to locate the owner of the white car (pictured below).

Blackwell and 25-year old Brennen Johnson were shot at the gas station and convenience store at 9th and Kerlin, according to police. Johnson appears to be the intended target and Blackwell was hit by a stray bullet, according to Chester mayor John Linder.

Both victims were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center and are in stable condition, police said. Johnson was arrested on a drug charge. The shooter got away.

Blackwell is a member and minister at Life in Christ Cathedral of Faith, according to her biography on the city's website.

Mohammed Fareed of Bucks County was gunned down during what police suspect was an attempted robbery at the gas station two months ago. He owned the gas station and convenience store and had worked there for 30 years.

Anyone with information about Friday's shooting are asked to contact Chester Police at (610) 447-7908.
