A political appointee of Gov. Chris Christie who appears to have created traffic jams in a North Jersey town to punish its mayor is now fighting a subpoena requiring him to testify about the incident.
An attorney for David Wildstein will be in court Thursday morning to argue that the subpoena is unenforceable.
A state legislative panel is investigating why approach lanes to the George Washington Bridge were suddenly closed in September, causing traffic gridlock in Fort Lee, the town at the mouth of the world's busiest span.
Wildstein had been Christie's No. 2 deputy at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey until he resigned. He's scheduled to testify Thursday afternoon.
Emails published Wednesday show a top Christie aide suggested the closings that Wildstein carried out.
Christie called the conduct "unacceptable."
The governor is expected to speak on the issue at 11 a.m. Thursday.
