A 29-year-old woman is in custody following a hostage situation in South Philadelphia.
Police say that the woman stabbed three people before barricading herself and two children under the age of six in her home on 10th and Ritner.
The incident began when the woman stabbed her mother in the arm, according to police.
The first victim ran to a neighbor's house looking for assistance. It was there that the suspect stabbed a second victim, an elderly man, in the chest and back.
Both are in stable condition.
A third victim, who is being described as a good samaritan, was trying to help the victims when she was stabbed in the chest and arm. The woman is in critical condition at Jefferson Hospital where she is undergoing emergency surgery.
Police say the suspect then barricaded herself in her home with the knife and the children. It is unclear if the children belong to the suspect.
