Medics Rush 2 Children Pulled From Philly Fire to Hospital

Fire crews responding to a house fire in the Olney Thursday evening worked to save the lives of two young children rescued from the second floor of the home.

The fire broke out in a home along the 300 block of Sheldon Street just before 10 p.m. [[399983171, C]]

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said the children -- one 11 months old the other a 6-year-old -- were rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition, but said they were improving during a news conference late Thursday.

Fire crews were on the scene in four minutes and found heavy smoke in the home, said the commissioner. [[399949301, C]]

"You can't see anything, there was a lot of smoke in there... so it's always a real challenge to locate people in these buildings," said Thiel.

Investigators remained on the scene late Thursday looking into the cause of the fire. It wasn't immediately clear if any parents were in the home at the time.
