Child Porn Trial Starts for Former Delaware Headmaster

The former headmaster of an elite prep school in Wilmington is going on trial on charges of dealing in child pornography.

The trial of 54-year-old Christopher Wheeler is set to begin Tuesday. Wheeler has elected to waive his right to a jury trial and have his fate decided by a judge.

That same judge last month denied a defense motion to suppress evidence seized by authorities last year amid allegations that Wheeler had sexually abused three boys several years ago. Wheeler has not been charged with sexually abusing anyone, but prosecutors say the investigation uncovered multiple images of child pornography.

The criminal investigation led Wheeler to resign his post as headmaster at Tower School, whose graduates include DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman, U.S. Sen. Chris Coons and former congressman Mike Castle.
