Del. Child Migrants Apprehended

Many of the child migrants placed with Delaware families are living in Sussex County.

That's according to new figures released this week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that 114 minors apprehended by immigration authorities without a parent or guardian since January have been placed with sponsors in Delaware's southernmost county while they await immigration hearings and potential deportation.

The federal government only releases county-specific data when there are 50 or more children living in any specific county. That means fewer than 50 child migrants have been placed with sponsors in Kent and New Castle counties. There was no data available for either county.
