A 7-year-old girl was shot Friday afternoon in Chester City, Delaware County, police said.

She was wounded in a drive-by shooting sometime around 3:30 p.m., and the shooting was caught on surveillance video. The little girl was seated inside a car parked in front of a corner store when the gunfire broke out as someone aimed for a group of men on the sidewalk. The girl's grandfather was also wounded.

“I’ve never been through this before. It doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t make sense,” said Jequell Bailey, the girl’s cousin.

Surveillance video shows a red SUV drive by in front of a corner store on the 400 block of Highland Avenue. Within seconds, the car stops and shots ring out.

Two men, one of them the 7-year-old's grandfather, drop down and try to hide behind a car as a woman rushes into the store to escape the bullets. The grandfather, wounded, collapses.

After the SUV leaves, the little girl limps out of the car she was sitting in as the woman who ran into the store comes out at tries to keep her standing. Another person opens the door and both try to help the girl.

Neighbors and police told NBC10 that that particular block of Highland Avenue has seen other shootings in recent days. Bailey said he was shot himself just last week.

A motive in the shooting outbreak has not yet been released by police, and no arrests have been made.
