Chef Jose Garces Opening Taqueria in Rittenhouse

The Iron Chef and his restaurant group The Garces Group have two restaurants in Rittenhouse Square — Village Whiskey and Tinto, which are adjacent to one another on 20th and Sansom streets — and they're adding another one to the list.

Chef Jose Garces has signed a lease to open a Buena Onda restaurant at 1735 Chestnut St., the restaurant group's Baja-inspired taqueria.

"It will be similar in format to our first location in Fairmount," said Rob Keddie, CEO of Garces Group. "With having just signed the lease last week, we are working on design and no timeline for opening has been set. More details to come.”

The first Buena Onda, at 1901 Callowhill St., opened in March last year.

That's not the only news for Garces or his restaurant group. Garces earlier this year opened an Amada outpost in New York, and there are plans to open a new restaurant called 24 that will focus on health-conscious wood-fired food. It will be adjacent to a research-and-development kitchen for Garces and his culinary team.
