The aftermath of last year's reorganization for Rutgers University is continuing.
Employees' unions plan to protest possible layoffs while the state Senate considers changing the membership of the school's key governing board on Thursday.
Rutgers officials oppose the proposed membership change for the Board of Governors, seeing it as a power-grab by politicians.
Under the proposal that's up for a vote in the Senate, the governor would be able to appoint four additional members of the board, giving elected officials selections of 12 of its 19 members. The governor now appoints eight of the 15 members.
Lawmakers say new board members could add life sciences expertise, since Rutgers now has two medical schools.
