Tires, Rims Taken From Parked Cars in Queen Village

Residents in the Queen Village neighborhood of South Philadelphia woke up to an unusual sight over the weekend.

“I saw a white Scion, the cops around it -- no tires,” said resident Jess Smith.

The wheels were taken sometime Saturday night into Sunday.

It was one of at least three cars thieves targeted around the 100 block of Pemberton Street over the weekend, stealing all four tires and rims from each, people in the neighborhood said.

“This is not the area to be happening,” said Smith. “And now it's happening, it's just weird.”

A red Mustang parked nearby was also apparently hit.

“I guess it's freaky, could it be a sign of the times maybe?” wondered resident Domenic Ward. “People are desperate for money?”

Another car was recently vandalized at 2nd and Bainbridge Streets, residents said.

The cars were still on the street Monday -- resting on milk crates and boards. The car owners are left needing to foot the bill to replace the wheels.

Philadelphia Police confirmed the Scion incident and said they are looking into the other two alleged incidents.

Anyone who might have seen the vandalism or know who committed the acts should contact Philadelphia Police.
