Ron Martin, Former South Jersey Newspaper Reporter & Executive, Dies

Ron Martin, a veteran newspaperman who served as executive editor of The Burlington County Times for several years, has died. He was 67.

The newspaper reports that Martin, who had cancer, died Saturday.

A longtime Tabernacle resident, Martin began his career with the newspaper in 1977 as a sports writer. He subsequently worked on the sports copy desk and became Sunday editor in 1984.

Martin also served as the newspaper's copy desk chief for two years before becoming an associate editor in 1996. He became its executive editor later that year and held the post for a dozen years.

Martin taught journalism at Burlington County College, and also served for many years as a basketball referee and as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.
