European-Bound Flight Returns to Philadelphia Due to Smoky Smell in the Cabin

An American Airlines flight bound for Brussels, Belgium returned to Philadelphia International Airport Monday night after the pilot reported smoke in the cabin.

American Airlines flight 750, which took off just before 9 p.m., was in the air for about 45 minutes – only making out over the ocean below Long Island – before returning to Philadelphia.

“Shortly after takeoff, the captain returned to Philadelphia International Airport because of a smoke smell in the cabin,” said American Airlines spokeswoman Victoria Lupica. “The flight landed safely and fire rescue personnel were on the ground as a precaution.”

The airline determined the fire came from the galley and was minor, said Lupica.

American provided hotel rooms and meal vouchers for all 155 passengers, said Lupica. Those passengers would be placed on Tuesday evening's flight to Brussels instead.

AA Flight 750 originates in Dallas before stopping in Philly on its way to Europe.
