Uncle, Dad Chase Down Thief After Attempted Purse-Snatching: Police

Police say a serial purse robber is in custody in Delaware County after he tried to steal a 17-year-old girl's handbag and her uncle and father chased him and caught him.

Around 11 p.m. on Friday, the girl was at her Upper Darby front door, just returning home from work, when a man put a knife to her neck and demanded her handbag.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says the girl began screaming and her father and uncle, who were both inside the house, ran outside and chased the suspect.

They caught the man, who stabbed the uncle in the shoulder, and held him until police arrived. The uncle was treated at a hospital and released. [[373710451, C]]
