But the doors of economic advancement are not necessarily open to all people. Philadelphia ranks ninth in both minority- and women-owned businesses of the 10 largest U.S. cities, according to Census data.

The folks behind Broke in Philly are organizing an event on July 18 aimed at connecting entrepreneurs with the services they need to make their dreams come true. Funding Your Hustle will include panel discussions, lightning talks and one-on-one networking opportunities at West Philadelphia's Venture Cafe.
