Man Still in Hospital After Boulder Crushes Leg

Artifact digger in fair condition Monday after being rescued over the weekend

Emergency workers in Mercer County rescued a man who was trapped in a hole after a boulder fell on his leg Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say 56-year-old Robert Goss and Ralph Mundy were digging for artifacts at the former Kuser Estate at 64 Fiddlers Creek Road in Hopewell Township just after 1 p.m. when Goss became trapped.

Police say Goss was four feet inside a hole when a 200- to 400-pound boulder fell on his leg and trapped him. Investigators say Goss was conscious and talking to rescuers while trapped in the hole for more than two hours.

He was transported to Regional Hospital in Trenton where he was listed in guarded condition Sunday afternoon before being upgraded to fair condition by Monday, according to hospital officials.

Police say Mundy was not injured.
