The Assembly has passed a bill that would delay the use of new standardized tests to evaluate teachers in New Jersey.
The measure, which cleared the lower house by a 72-4 vote on Monday, also would create a task force to review the cost and effectiveness of the standards.
Unions that represent teachers and school administrators say the process has been rushed and schools need more time to implement the program.
The tests are scheduled to be given to New Jersey students in grades 3 to 11 beginning in the 2014-15 school year.
