Bill’s Blog: Summer-Like Conditions for NFL Draft, Penn Relays

Scheduling big outdoor events for the end of April can be tricky when it comes to the weather. It's still springtime which can bring large temperature swings and the threat of spring storms. But this time around, Mother Nature seems to be on board with nice and unusually warm conditions for the Penn Relays and the NFL Draft in Philadelphia.

Saturday will bring conditions that will feel more like the middle of summer with afternoon temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and summer-like humidity, too.

The relays got started at Franklin Field in University City Thursday morning with nearly ideal weather. Cloudy skies overnight kept temperatures warmer than the normal 40s for late April. With clouds thinning, temperatures will warm well into the 70s Thursday afternoon with humidity staying low.

Equally nice conditions on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the beginning of the draft.

The Penn Relays run late Thursday night, with the women's and men's 10,000 meter runs starting around 11 p.m. That's late enough for a chance of showers and thunderstorms that will start moving into the area overnight.
