VP Speaks to Graduates

Vice President Joe Biden says today's college graduates are well-positioned to lead America in the 21st century.

Biden spoke Monday at the University of Pennsylvania's commencement ceremony in Philadelphia.

He says graduates shouldn't listen to cynics who say the U.S. is in decline.

Biden says this is the most competent, capable and caring generation that the nation has ever produced.

Biden has many connections to Penn. His granddaughter just finished her freshman year, and his son Beau, the attorney general of Delaware, is an alum.

Biden also spoke at the graduation for Penn's School of Social Policy and Practice three years ago, when his daughter Ashley received a master's degree.

On Monday, the vice president addressed about 5,000 new grads. Biden and seven others also received honorary degrees.

Biden earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware before earning a law degree from Syracuse University.
