Bicyclist Struck by Pickup Truck in Hit-and-Run, Driver Charged: Police

Several charges have been filed against a motorist who allegedly drove off after hitting and seriously injuring a bicyclist on a southern New Jersey roadway.

Franklin Township police tell the South Jersey Times
that the 28-year-old victim was struck by a pickup truck around 10 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses told police that the motorist drove away with the victim's bike wedged under the truck.

The victim was flown to a hospital, but further details on his condition have not been disclosed.

The truck was found Saturday at a nearby business.

Paul Aveni Jr., a 29-year-old Franklin resident who allegedly was driving the pickup, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also received several motor vehicle citations.
