2 Men Beat Man with Hatchet, Stick Outside NJ Home: Police

Two men were arrested after they allegedly beat a man with blunt objects outside of his home in Mullica Township, New Jersey Wednesday morning.

Police say Randolf English, 42, of Dorchester, New Jersey and Brian Kuhns, 26, of Liesburg, New Jersey attacked a man outside his home on the 3700 block of Nesco Road shortly before 7 a.m. The suspects used a hatchet and a stick during the attack and then fled the area into the woods on foot, according to investigators.

The victim was taken to Atlanticare Hospital where he was treated for head and arm injuries.

The victim’s wife called police who responded to the scene. NBC10 obtained the wife's frantic 911 call.

"He's got a pretty good head wound," the wife says. "They were beating him in my driveway, and I didn't hear it on time. He's okay. He's up, but he's hurt bad. Oh my God."

Responding officers first noticed a suspicious vehicle about a half a mile away from the home in a grassy field. One of the officers stayed with the vehicle while the other searched the home. More officers from Mullica Township as well as other police agencies and K9 units from nearby towns were called to the scene.  The New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit was also contacted for aerial support.

Police eventually found English and Kuhns around 8:05 a.m. in the backyard of a nearby home, officials said. Both men were taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, conspiracy and resisting arrest.

English was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail while Kuhns was lodged in the facility in lieu of $40,000 cash bail.

Police have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack.
