Berks County Judge Jeffrey Sprecher said Wednesday that prosecutors presented evidence that 32-year-old Jose Bonilla-Ortiz of Reading posed a danger.

The Reading Eagle says Sprecher cited a witness reportedly living in fear and alleged gang ties on the part of the defendant, who authorities say is a suspect in several drug cases.

Bonilla-Ortiz was also convicted of aggravated assault and weapons offenses but acquitted of first-degree murder.

Prosecutors said he killed 28-year-old Richard Gonzalez of Prince George's County, Md., during a November 2009 brawl at the after-hours club.

Defense attorney William Bernhart has vowed to appeal the conviction.
