An attempt to catch shoplifting suspects ended in a 5-vehicle crash in Freehold Township.
It started when security at the township's Wal-Mart spotted two men stealing televisions on Thursday night.
Police Lt. Lawrence Loos told the Asbury Park Press the suspects threatened to fight security and brandished pepper spray before driving off in a rental car.
Loos says the suspects' car, three other vehicles and a police cruiser crashed at the intersection of Route 537 and Route 33.
The two suspects fled on foot.
Four people were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
