Atlantic Co. Declares State of Emergency

86,000 left without power

Atlantic County has declared a state of emergency in response to the severe thunderstorms that hit the area just after midnight Saturday.

Per authorities, the state of emergency went into effect at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Nearly 86,000 customers in Atlantic County were left powerless by the storms, which was part of a derecho storm system that left millions without power across several states from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic.

As part of the state of emergency, people are asked to stay off the road due the number of downed trees and wires. Updates and information are available by dialing 1-866-704-4636.
