A Good Samaritan jumped into action and saved a woman’s life after a car crashed into the water in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Police say a 29-year-old man was driving with a 28-year-old female passenger around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the 3200 block of Fairmount Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed through the bulkhead and into the bay. TJ Andrews, an Atlantic City resident, was walking in the area at the time of the crash. He saw that the driver was struggling to get the woman out of the car. Andrews then jumped into the water and helped pull her to safety.
"He was already pulling her out but he wasn't strong enough," Andrews said. "So what I did was help. When I came up he just let go. I don't know what he was doing but I actually took over and helped pull the lady up to the edge of the bulkhead and pulled her up because he wasn't strong enough to do it."
Andrews told NBC10 he didn't think twice about jumping in to help.
"It was kind of like instinctive," he said.
Andrews, the driver and the passenger were all taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Andrews and the driver were treated for minor injuries while the passenger was treated for serious injuries.
A crane eventually removed the vehicle from the water. No charges have been filed but the accident is under investigation.
