Assault Charges Dropped in Elder Abuse Case

Formal arraignments for the trio are set for July 14.

Prosecutors dropped the most serious charges filed against three women accused of abusing an Alzheimer's patient at a suburban Philadelphia assisted living facility.

Aggravated assault charges against the three workers at the Quadrangle Continuing Care Retirement Community in Haverford were dropped Thursday. The Delaware County Daily Times reports the trio
waived preliminary hearings on the remaining charges including simple assault and neglect.

Authorities charged Ayesha Muhammad, Tynia Griffin and Samirah Traynham in April after the 78-year-old woman's family set up a hidden camera because the patient complained she was being abused.

Authorities say footage captured by the camera shows the defendants taunting the woman as she stood half-naked in her room.

The state temporarily revoked the facility's certification following the arrests, but it has since been reinstated.

Formal arraignments are set for July 14.
