Army specialist, medic die in separate attacks

Two Philly-area soldiers died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Pfc. David Jefferson died July 2 after he was injured from an insurgent attack in Afghanistan. An improvised explosive device went off while Jefferson’s unit was on patrol in Kandahar, said the Department of Defense.

Spc. Louis Fastuca died July 5 after insurgents attacked his vehicle in Abdulhamid Kalev, said the DOD. He was killed by an IED attack.

Jefferson, 23, was an Army Combat Medic assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, Ky., said

Fastuca, 24 was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team out of Camp Ederle, Italy.
