Classes Resume After Student's Death Inside Howard High School

Classes at a Delaware high school resumed Monday after a 16-year-old student was killed in a fight at the school last week.

Wilmington City Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey Walker told The News Journal that Monday marks the first day of regular classes at Howard High School of Technology since Thursday, when Amy Joyner-Francis died after a fight in one of the school's restrooms. She said grief counselors will be available for students.

Students returned to school Friday for a shortened day for similar counseling.

Wilmington police said the sophomore was involved in a fight with several female students. Police have not disclosed a possible motive and no charges have been filed in the case.

A community town hall is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Stubbs Elementary School, which is adjacent to the high school along 12th Street.
