A central Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in a slaying that stemmed from an argument at a party where people had gathered to watch last month's boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
The (Altoona) Mirror reports that a Cambria County judge ruled Friday that there was enough evidence to support charges of criminal homicide, aggravated and simple assault and a firearms crime against 35-year-old Jorge Gomez III of Altoona.
Prosecutors allege that Gomez killed 28-year-old Kai Carter intentionally outside the May 3 party in Altoona.
Defense attorney Thomas Dickey contends that his client was "sucker punched" and fell to the ground, and he fired in self-defense. Dickey said he plans to challenge a charge of first-degree murder before the case goes to trial.
