Albright College officials say a sophomore was killed and two other students injured in an early-morning house fire.
College officials identify the victim as 19-year-old Matt Rein of South River, N.J.
They say Rein was an environmental science major and swim team member who was visiting the house.
The names and conditions of the two injured male students have not been released.
Reading Fire Marshal Larry Moyer says the 5 a.m. fire was contained to the basement and caused mostly smoke damage.
He says four students jumped from a second-floor porch to escape, while Rein and another victim were found on the first floor.
Moyer says the home had working smoke detectors.
A college web site describes Rein as a school record-holder in swimming. Officials at Albright released the following statement on Rein's death:
The Albright College community is in mourning after a student died as a result of injuries sustained in a fire at a private residence off campus early Saturday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends during this time of sadness.
