On Monday, AirTran Airways announced their plans to end flights between Atlantic City International Airport and Atlanta in January. The announcement leaves the airport with one primary carrier, Spirit Airlines.
AirTran currently offers two daily flights to Altanta, but blames their decision on the economy and higher fuel prices.
AirTran was working under a a two-year, $4 million subsidy agreement with the South Jersey Transportation Authority, according to the Press of Atlantic City. The deal which will expire in September provided the airline with funds for its daily flights to Atlanta.
In May, Southwest Airlines announced they would aquire AirTran in 2012.
