Delaware State Police have charged a Dover airman in the 2012 death of a 21-month-old boy care.
Police announced Wednesday that Justin Corbett has been charged in the death of Evan Dudley. The 25-year-old was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder by abuse or neglect, recklessly causing the death of a child.
Corbett was caring for the boy in November 2012 while his mother, also a Dover Air Force Base airman, was deployed. Police say Corbett called 911 to report that Evan was unresponsive after falling down stairs. The boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition with head trauma and died a few days later.
The boy's death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma and police say experts who reviewed the case agreed.
Corbett was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bond.
