Activists Oppose Oil Firm's Breast Cancer Donation

Activists are protesting an oil and gas firm's $100,000 donation to a major breast cancer advocacy group.

The activists say the Susan G. Komen organization should refuse the donation from Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. The check presentation will take place Sunday before the Pittsburgh Steelers game. Opponents are planning to rally in a park across from Heinz Field.

Breast cancer survivor Dana Dolney is director of Friends of the Harmed, a local group that supports people who say they've been harmed by gas drilling. She tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Komen shouldn't allow companies to use breast cancer publicity to improve their image.

Komen says in a statement there are "strong opinions" on the issue but adds that employees of the oilfield services firm have shown "passion and commitment" to the cause.
