Accused Tire Slasher Waives Arraignment

David Toledo and his attorney were not in court Thursday

At first, he was a victim and then police arrested him as a suspect.

David Toledo, 44, of Mayfair, is accused of vandalizing dozens of cars on his own block and in the area surrounding his home between January and April.

On Thursday, he waived his arraigment on 54 charges of criminal mischief, possessing instruments of crime and filing false reports. His next court date is set for Aug. 15.

The Mayfair resident spoke to NBC10 several times, claiming to be a victim of the slashings. He was quite outspoken about the crimes and even said what he'd like to do to the person responsible. "I want the guy who did it because I want to break both of his hands so that he never does it again," said Toledo back in mid-March.

At his preliminary hearing a few weeks ago, a police officer told the court that after Toledo was arrested, newspaper articles about the vandalism and heavy-duty razor blades were found inside his home.

Toledo's attorney William Brennan defends his client. "Nobody saw him with a weapon. The other guy's got a weapon and nobody saw him anywhere near a tire being slashed."
