Young Mom Shot, Killed in Wilmington Home

The victim just had a baby 10 days ago. The baby and the woman’s 3-year-old were found in the home unharmed.

A young mother was shot and killed in her Wilmington home early Wednesday morning and now police are looking for answers.

They tell NBC10’s Tim Furlong that 24-year-old Monique Boyce was found dead in her home on the 800 block of North Madison Street just after 1:30 a.m.

They say that they were alerted to the crime when Boyce’s 25-year-old boyfriend walked up to an officer at a nearby McDonald’s and told police he had been shot in the torso inside the North Madison house.

When police arrived at the house, not only did they find the deceased, they also found her two children – a 10-day-old baby and a 3-year-old – unharmed.

Friends of the victim tell NBC10 she was excited over the birth of her baby.

“She was so happy…it’s just shocking to see something like this happen to her,” friend Shakeira Romeo said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. So far, they have no motives or suspects.

Boyce’s boyfriend is at the hospital in stable condition. They have not confirmed that the man is the father of the victim's children.
