Woman to Stand Trial in Boyfriend's Death

Jury selection starts Monday for the trial of a northwestern Pennsylvania woman charged in the shooting death of her boyfriend last summer.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kristina Mae Allen is charged in Erie County with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, weapon possession and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say 27-year-old Dean Haggerty was found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest in a mobile home in Summit Township in August.

Prosecutors said Allen gave police different accounts, at one point saying she reached for a gun Haggerty was holding and at another point saying she had taken the gun and was pointing it at him to ``scare'' him when it discharged.

The Erie Times-News reports that the defense has argued that prosecutors don't have enough evidence for a first- or third-degree murder conviction.
