Woman Shot in Broad Daylight for Her Purse

The victim was rushed to a hospital. Police search for two suspects.

Police in Lehigh County are searching for two men who allegedly shot a woman while trying to steal her purse.

It happened just before 12:30 Tuesday afternoon in Whitehall Township.

The 19-year old victim was walking home with a male friend after shopping at a Walmart store on Macarthur Road.

When she approached the Schadt Avenue entrance to the shopping plaza, police say two men got out of a parked car and followed her.

The suspects approached the woman.  She would not give up her purse, and she was shot in the back, according to police.

Then the gunmen grabbed the purse and took off in a blue four-door car.

Local shoppers were stunned by the shooting. One man told NBC10, "I'm kind of shocked that something like this would happen in this part of town, especially during the day like this."

The victim was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital where she had surgery. There is no word on her condition.

Her friend was not hurt and police say he is cooperating in their investigation.
