1 Woman Dies, Another Hurt in Daytime Shootings in Philadelphia

Police are investigating two separate shootings that left one woman dead and another critically injured in Philadelphia Tuesday.

Police are investigating two separate shootings that left one woman dead and another critically injured in Philadelphia Tuesday.

A shirtless gunman shot a woman in the face as she drove along a Philadelphia street Tuesday morning then got in another car and fled. Later in the day, a woman in another neighborhood was shot and killed.

The first shooting occurred in the city's Logan neighborhood around 7:45 a.m. A 42-year-old woman, identified by family members as Yadira Torres, was driving on the way to work on N 11th and W Rockland streets when a bullet went through her vehicle and struck her in the left side of her cheek before exiting out of her neck.

"It's just another tragic case of senseless violence," Philadelphia Police Captain Malachi Jones said during an afternoon press conference. "Here you have a woman on her way to work, first thing in the morning, and this unfortunate incident happens. It's very alarming to say the least."

Medics rushed Torres to nearby Einstein Medical Center where she is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police don't believe Torres was the intended target and instead say an unidentified gunman was shooting at another man.

"All indicators are she had nothing whatsoever to do with this incident," Captain Jones said.

The gunshot appeared to come from a man wearing no shirt and blue sweat pants who fired a weapon from about a half block away on the 4800 block of Marvine Street, police said. After the shooting the shirtless man got into a gold Lincoln Town Car and drove off.

Police also say a man, who they believe was the gunman's intended target, was caught on surveillance video fleeing on foot eastbound on Rockland Street moments after the shooting. They say he was wearing a black and white hat, black and white sneakers and blue jeans.

The second shooting occurred around 1:15 p.m. A gunman opened fire on a woman along the 1200 block of Sanger Street in Frankford.

The 25-year-old woman died a short time later at Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia Police said.

The SWAT Team could be seen focused on a home in the minutes after the shooting.

A suspect in the woman's death was found at a home in the Germantown section of Philadelphia several hours later. The man allegedly fired shots at responding officers and remains inside the house. Sources also told NBC10 the man is the victim's ex-boyfriend.
