Woman Sentenced to 15 Years in Husband's Murder

Donna Sciglitano pleaded no contest to second-degree murder

A woman who fatally shot her husband in the head as he slept has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Sixty-one-year-old Donna Sciglitano was sentenced Thursday in Superior Court. She pleaded no contest in August to second-degree murder in the death of 59-year-old Nino Sciglitano Sr. on Sept. 15, 2011 in their Brandywine Hundred home.

Police found Donna Sciglitano unresponsive inside the home, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment of an apparent overdose.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that at sentencing, Donna Sciglitano's lawyer said the woman suffered from several undiagnosed mental conditions and was a battered spouse.

But Nino Sciglitano's sister Donna Fragale said in court that Donna Sciglitano was manipulative and evil.
