Woman Returns Nearly $1K to Mom in Need

Just in time for the Holiday season, a New Jersey woman's act of kindness goes a long way for a mother of five.

With the Holiday season in full swing, an act of kindness proved to be a Christmas present that a New Jersey mother of five will never forget.

Back on December 1, Carol Lee Carter and her 14-year-old son Anthony returned to their car after shopping at a Walmart in Vineland. That’s when Anthony found a bank envelope next to their car containing $945 in cash, according to Delaware Online.

Carol wrote a note with her phone number explaining she had found the envelope and placed it on the windshield of the van parked next to her. She then went home with her son, hoping that the rightful owner would give her a call.

That call came 15 minutes later. A woman left two voicemails on Carol’s phone before Carol called her back, according to Delaware Online. Once Carol spoke with her, the woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, verified that the money belonged to her by naming the bank on the envelope as well as the exact amount inside.

Carol returned to the parking lot where she met the woman and gave her back her money. Carol’s compassionate act couldn’t have come at a better time. Carol told Delaware Online that the woman was a mother of five children ranging from ages one through 12 and had recently moved out of a homeless shelter.

The woman told Carol that she went to Walmart to purchase a money order to pay rent for her new apartment and dropped the envelope when she left her van. If the woman had lost the money, she wouldn’t have been able to keep the apartment. The woman thanked Carol and the two parted ways. But the story doesn’t end there.

The weekend after, Carol told her pastor about what happened while attending an open house at his home. Pastor Bill Clay of the Ramoth Church in Vineland then decided to sponsor the woman and her family. The church is providing the family Christmas gifts as well as items the woman needs for her new apartment.

Delaware Online reports that the woman was brought to tears when Carol told her the news.

But the woman isn’t the only recipient of the wonderful gift from Carol Lee Carter and the Ramoth Church congregation. Their generosity is a reminder to us all that in an often cold and apathetic world, the spirit of giving is still alive and well.
