Woman Killed, 2 Troopers Hurt in Turnpike Crashes

Two accidents involving the same car on a stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike have left one woman dead and two state police troopers injured.

Authorities say 24-year-old Kara Ocasio of Linden apparently was killed early Saturday when she lost control of her car while driving in the northbound lanes between exits 11 and 12 in Woodbridge. It hit a guardrail and the center concrete divider before ending up in the left lane.

Her car was then struck around 2:30 a.m. by a police cruiser carrying the two troopers. They were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University hospital, where they were treated and released.

It wasn't immediately clear when the first crash occurred or what caused Ocasio to lose control of her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
