Woman Destroys House in Drunken Crash: Police

Woman drives into lamp post, mailbox, front of house, garage, Mercedes and motorcycle

A 21-year-old woman drove across two lawns and through a house and its garage, creating so much damage at 2:24 a.m. Monday that the home is now unsafe to live in, police in Delaware say.

Alcohol and speed contributed to the crash, New Castle County Police say.

Jessica Cook was driving a 2006 Pontiac Vibe at a high speed on New Granville Road when she failed to make a turn at the curve of the road, police say.

According to police, Cook drove off the road, hit a lamp post, ran into a mailbox, continued over a lawn and then hit another mailbox. The car went through another lawn, went up a hill, became airborne and then crashed into the front door and bay window of a house. The car didn’t stop there – it then entered the garage, hitting a 2012 Mercedes, which crashed into a 202 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

A New Castle County building inspector deemed the home unfit for habitation because of the structural damage.

The crash is under investigation. Cook refused medical treatment.
