Woman Chasing Dog Killed by SEPTA Train

Commuters tried to warn the woman of the oncoming train, witnesses say

A woman was killed after being struck by a SEPTA regional rail train while chasing her dog.

The unidentified woman was hit by an eastbound R5 Thorndale train as it pulled into the Bryn Mawr, Pa. station around 6 p.m. Friday, Lower Merion police say.

The woman ran into the train's path after her dog got loose from its collar and jetted onto the rails, according to police.

Witnesses told NBC Philadelphia they yelled to warn the woman of the oncoming train, but that she didn't seem to hear.

The woman was pulled under the train and killed instantly, police say. The dog, a chihuahua, escaped safely, witnesses said.

Service on the R5 line was suspended as authorities investigated the incident. Full operations were restored just before 9 p.m.
