High Heels Used for Drug Smuggling

The Camden, N.J. woman was arrested after returning home from a trip to Jamaica

A Camden, N.J. woman is arrested after Customs workers at Philadelphia International Airport say they found drugs stuffed inside her shoes.

U.S. Customs officers say Iveliza Tuhanna Perez, 25, had just gotten off a plane from Jamaica. During a baggage examination, officers say they found three pairs of wedge heel shoes that seemed fairly heavy.

An X-ray showed something inside the sole and heel of all of the shoes, authorities say.

Customs officers say it turned out to be four and a half pounds of cocaine stuffed inside those shoes, worth approximately $140,000.

“We want potential drug couriers to know that it’s not so easy to just walk through Philadelphia International Airport with narcotics,” said Allan Martocci, CBP Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia.

Perez is charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute and Knowing and Intentional Possession.
