Woman Arrested for Allegedly Punching State Trooper

Woman arrested after she allegedly punched a trooper in the chest

Delaware State Police have charged a woman with resisting arrest with violence after she allegedly punched a trooper in the chest.

It happened Saturday about 4:45 p.m. at the Concord Mall in Wilmington. Troopers say 19-year-old Ciara Benson of Wilmington walked out of a store with merchandise she hadn't paid for.

A trooper ordered her to stop, but she continued walking. The trooper grabbed her by the arm and Benson allegedly began yelling and resisting the trooper.

Police say Benson pushed the trooper and punched him in the chest. After struggle, the trooper was able to put the woman in handcuffs.

She is being held in lieu of $3,000 secured bail.
