Woman Accused of Stabbing Friend to Death

A Philadelphia woman is in custody after police say she stabbed her friend to death during an argument.

On Sunday, shortly after 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing on the 2600 block of N 22nd Street. When police arrived, they found 50-year-old Alverta Armstrong. Police say she suffered several stab wounds to her stomach and legs.

Armstrong was taken to Temple University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.
On Tuesday, police arrested 53-year-old Sherry Johnson in connection to Armstrong’s death. Johnson was taken into custody and charged with murder and possessing an instrument of crime.

Police say Johnson and Armstrong were “known acquaintances.” They also say Johnson killed Armstrong after an argument between the two.
