Woman Accused of Faking Cancer for Money

Alicia Tolton, 26, has been accused of scamming her friends and family into believing that she had cancer.

The Willow Grove resident organized a cancer benefit for herself, entitled “Wishes for Alicia,” scheduled for Sunday, October 17.

The Upper Moreland Police began investigating Tolton’s cancer story after her benefit was first reported to them back in late August.

Tolton promoted the event by using her own Facebook page as well as creating a specialized “Wishes for Alicia” page. In the pages, she reported that she had suffered from Ovarian and Breast Cancer for nearly 18 months.

Tolton ordered and solicited tickets, tee shirts, bracelets, raffles, door prizes and donations. By mid September, she had raised approximately $1000 through the help of friends and family who all believed her story.

Investigators also say that Tolton received money from her wheel chair bound mother and her out of work father.

Tolton allegedly shaved her head to keep up the deception. Investigators also say that Tolton designed and presented medical invoices and receipts using the Fox Chase Cancer Center logo, even though she was never a patient there.

Tolton allegedly admitted to police that she did not have cancer and that she fabricated her medical documents during an interview on September 16.

Tolton is charged with theft by deception, forgery and tampering with records or identifications. She is currently being held on $25,000 cash bail. She is also on probation for past drug charges.
