Snow, Rain Move Out, Here Comes the Wind

Blowing in the wind.

Wind is going to blowing through the area as the snow and rain leave Wednesday night.

Winds will be around 10 to 20 MPH as temperatures drop into the 20s overnight.

Dust off the snowblowers.

There is actually a reason to get them out of the garage and give'em a spin around the block.

Start spreading the salt.

The plows are plopped down for the first time this winter weather season, as the first measurable snow blankets the area.

The shoveling has started and will get harder as the snow gets heavier and wetter.

As the atmosphere is warming snow is changing to freezing rain.

Freezing rain will continue N&W, causing significant icing of surfaces, trees, and power lines.
The precipitation will change to all rain from south to north during the day today as warmer air moves in at the ground. Plain old rain is spreading right now in parts of Delaware and South Jersey, but temperatures are in the 20s and 30s causing the rain to freeze.

  • 9:00 a.m. = 33 degrees with rain and freezing rain
  • noon = 37 degrees with rain
  • 4:00 p.m. 42 degrees with rain

The snow started falling in the Lehigh Valley around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

A couple of inches blanketed the ground this morning. Commuters had a slow go of it in some places, but overall the roads weren't too bad.

"Its compact not making it slippery. Drivers are going slow so that’s a good thing," said Christian White of Northampton.

Wednesday evening the storm should end with a period of heavy rain across the region.

The temperature by that time will be above freezing.
