Chicago Cubs' Winning Manager Honored in Pennsylvania Hometown

Chicago Cubs' winning manager Joe Maddon has been honored in his northeastern Pennsylvania hometown of Hazleton after his team broke a 108-year streak without a championship title.

The Hazleton Standard-Speaker  reports that Saturday night's celebration came during Maddon's annual visit to raise money for the Hazleton Integration Project's Hazleton One Community Center.

Maddon was honored by government officials and by the children who are helped by the center, where Maddon and volunteers also provide holiday meals for the less fortunate.

In a question and answer session with young fans, Maddon said he began playing baseball at 6 years old and decided he wanted to play ball professionally.

Later, he found his way to coaching and managing, and he said "It's awesome. It's the best.''
