Buck Smashes Through Windshield, Kills Man

A man died after a deer crashed through his windshield while he was driving with his wife.

State police say an eastern Pa. man was killed by a deer which smashed through his windshield and struck the man with its antlers.

Troopers say 60-year-old Wali Bilal, of Bushkill, died on the way to the hospital after the crash about 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Route 209 in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, not far from the man's home, which is located about 45 miles northeast of Allentown, Pa.

Police say Bilal's wife grabbed the steering wheel and tried to control the vehicle, which struck a tree.

This crash came days after a report that Pennsylvania leads the country in deer-vehicle crashes. Drivers in Pennsylvania have a 1 in 73 chance of striking a deer, according to the State Farm study.
